The God Particle

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

I think the greatest modern boon one could have in this Internet age is to be featured on the home page of Google. No, not the 1st page of search listings after people type in their search query. But to be ON the home page of Google itself.

Today, September 11th 2008, as I get online, I see the graphic of the LHC encircling the Google logo, like an Ouroboros.

The LHC, or the Large Hadron Collider, is presently the world’s largest particle accelerator that was built to collide opposing high energy beams of hadrons. One of its aims is to verify the existence of the God particle or the Higgs Boson, a hypothetical entity attributed to giving mass to matter.

My commentary on this article: the author recalled how when the first atomic bomb was tested, people were worried it might ignite the whole atmosphere, but it didn’t. He compared it with the paranoia today surrounding the LHC. But then he forgot that though the first A-Bomb did not ignite the atmosphere, it spawned a new age of uncertainty and nuclear proliferation.

The Future Will Belong to Ghosts

Ghosts?

No, actually Ghost, as in Global Hosted Operating System.

It’s yet another step closer to the Singularity.

But the coolest thing about this start up is this - it’s a Palestinian-Israeli collaboration!

The Ineffable Experiment & Festivity Greetings

Tuesday, December 25th, 2007

I am about to perform the wildest, most audacious and most ineffably unworldly experiment of my life.

I won’t tell you what it is exactly, yet, if ever.

But I can say it is Tesla-like in its proportions.

Hmm… I don’t think I’d ever tell you what it is exactly, because if it is successful, there will be absolutely no need to tell you what it is but it is entirely possible that you can find it out for yourself. If it is not, then I would have no cause to tell you at all.

And oh yes, Merry Christmas, Eidul Ghadeer Mubarak and a Happy Common Era New Year.

The Islamic New Year is running quite closely with its Common Era counterpart this year as well, but for people like me it is far from a happy occasion.

How to Create Life in 24 Hours

Tuesday, December 4th, 2007

This could be a genuine scientific breakthrough, or simply a hoax.

Or it could be something that is not what it is said to be.

Scientist spontaneously generates DNA by heating sand in a test tube!

Warning: the link goes to an article written by a New Age author who is into those 2012, alien conspiracy theories, etc.

But the microscopic photographs are worth the 4 minutes or so of reading it.

It’s lengthy, you can get to the part that is really worth it by scrolling all the way down till you see the subheading “Pacheco’s Amazing Experiment”. There is a picture of a hand holding a test tube. You can’t miss it.
